Human metapneumovirus infections spiked this spring across the United States. HMPV, a little-known virus, usually causes mild cold-like symptoms, and can affect people of all ages. There is currently no specific antiviral therapy to treat HMPV and no vaccine to prevent it. Young children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk of complications from the illness.
